What is nipple surgery?

Dr. Poulos offers a variety of procedures for the nipple. Nipple surgery presents a safe, quick way to address long nipples or disproportionately-sized areola in men and women with long-lasting results.

Patients with a protruding nipple may opt for a nipple reduction, while gynecomastia, breast lift or reduction patients may prefer to reduce the size of the areola.

Breast enhancement patients may elect to receive a nipple enlargement to match the size and shape of the nipple to their newly-increased breast size, lending a natural and proportionate appearance to the breast. As many as 2% of women have an inverted nipple, creating difficulties in breast-feeding. In most cases, Dr. Poulos can preserve the milk ducts while correcting the inversion. Dr. Poulos can also create a realistic-looking nipple for those patients whose nipple was lost due to cancer or mastectomy.

What are the benefits of nipple surgery?

  • Improved profile view of the breasts
  • Younger-looking, perkier nipples
  • Correction of nipple deformities
  • Preservation of milk ducts
  • Improved nipple projection and placement
  • Complements a gynecomastia procedure for men
  • Well paired with a breast lift or breast augmentation
  • Helps boost self-confidence
  • Increases wardrobe options

Who makes the ideal candidate for nipple reduction in Worcester?

If you feel self-conscious about your nipples because they are larger than average; the areolar diameter is too large; they are inverted; they are asymmetrical or in any other way unappealing, nipple surgery can help correct these imperfections and revitalize the whole appearance of your chest.

Dr. Poulos will meet with you in private to review your options, presenting the pros and cons of nipple reduction so you can make the best choice possible for your surgery. She will conduct a detailed physical evaluation as well as a thorough review of your medical history.

Cynthia M. Poulos MD

Dr. Poulos is incredible. She is professional and honest. I was thinking of a few different procedures and she was very honest about what she thought I needed, what she thought was most important and which would make the most sense timing wise. I appreciated her honesty. In addition to Dr. Poulos, her office and her staff are all fantastic. I look forward to seeing her again.

What will my recovery be like?

Dr. Poulos will provide ample pain medications to help manage your discomfort after surgery. You will be asked to wear a surgical bra to help keep your new shape intact and minimize postoperative swelling. Any tingling, numbness or soreness in the nipples will gradually fade. Most patients find they can return to work within about 7-10 days. Dr. Poulos will send you home with a full aftercare plan, including instruction on bathing, sleeping and caring for your incisions.
