Can You Benefit from Labiaplasty?
You may benefit from labiaplasty if you experience any of the following:
- Enlarged or misshapen labial lips
- Sagging or lax vaginal structures from childbirth, weight loss or aging
- Stress urinary incontinence
- Physical and emotional discomfort during sexual intercourse
- Irritation, rashes or chafing in the labial area during exercise
- Self-consciousness or embarrassment when wearing tight or form-fitting clothing
Candidacy for labiaplasty is determined on a case by case basis. Dr. Poulos will meet with you personally to discuss your concerns and goals.
Labiaplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, under general anesthesia. The details of the procedure vary depending on each patient’s unique case. During labiaplasty, Dr. Poulos may trim excess skin around the outside of the vagina (labia majora) and resculpt the remaining skin for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. She may also modify the inner folds of skin leading into the vaginal opening (labia minora). The tissues in the labial folds are reshaped and tightened as needed.
The initial recovery period for labiaplasty can take one to two weeks, during which you will need to avoid physical activities. Swelling, bruising and soreness are normal and temporary. Dr. Poulos will provide you with detailed instructions to following during your recovery.
