Eyelid Aging? We Have Solutions!

Many patients come to my Northborough plastic surgery practice with concerns about the aging appearance of their eyes. It can be limited to drooping, overhanging upper lids, or puffy skin with dark circles underneath the eyes. Some patients have both problems.

As we age, the skin and the muscles beneath the skin become weaker, resulting in wrinkles and sagging. Injectable products like Juvéderm® can fill in crow's feet, while BOTOX® or Dysport® can lift the sagging eyebrow. While these are wonderful, effective products, over time, cosmetic surgery will be required to address the continued aging in the eye area.

Puffy eyes are often caused by herniated fat in the lower lid. Thinner skin allows the blood flow in the lower lids to be more apparent, creating those dark circles. Both problems can be addressed with a lower blepharoplasty to remove the fad pad and tighten the skin to create a younger look.

Drooping upper lids can be treated with an upper blepharoplasty or eyelid lift, which removes extra skin. The incision is in the crease of the upper lid, so most people never see it. If the drooping includes the brow area or the forehead has a great number of deep lines or wrinkles, we might consider a brow lift
