Facelift

Those of us who have experienced aging firsthand know this: old age shows most in our faces. Wrinkles and unsightly sagging can make even the fittest of us seem older than we feel. At a certain point, superficial topical treatments will do little to reverse or even slow the signs of aging. That's where the facelift comes in. As a procedure that can be tailored to meet your aesthetic preferences, facelifts are a cost-effective way to make you look and feel years younger.

Here at Classique Medical Spa, Dr. Cynthia Poulos has more than 22 years of experience performing facelifts for many clients across Massachusetts, with highly successful results and affordable rates. Read on to learn more about the procedure, and give our office a call to schedule an appointment today!

What is a facelift?

A rhytidectomy, known commonly as a "facelift," is a procedure that uses a combination of small incisions and skin trimming to improve the contour of your face and reduce the signs of aging. Factors such as heredity, stress, gravity, and other environmental elements can cause wrinkling and reduced elasticity of facial skin as we age. Facelift and necklift procedures can help turn back the clock and make your face look years younger.

Procedure and Recovery

Depending on the extent of the work done, a rhytidectomy can involve several micro-procedures. Before beginning the surgery, it is important to speak with our medical team to find out which medications are safe to continue taking through the process. On the day of the surgery, we begin by administering either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia to ensure a painless procedure. An incision will be made near the hairline and around the ears. A second incision will be made near the neck if a necklift is requested. The incisions are used to reposition underlying tissue and redistribute facial fat if necessary. Excess skin is removed, and the incision is closed for a tighter, firmer, and more contoured face and neck — all while retaining your face's "natural" appearance.

Sutures or skin tape are placed around the incisions, which are covered with a bandage. Recovery can vary, but typical time for swelling to completely subside is 1-2 weeks. Our surgical team takes great care to minimize any signs of scarring, and since most of the incision lines blend with your natural hairline, ear, and jaw contours, incisions are virtually invisible.
