What is PRP hair therapy?

PRP treatment is a non-surgical medical procedure where concentrated plasma rich in growth factor and nutrients are injected into parts of your scalp that require stimulation to grow hair.

PRP is short for platelet rich plasma. PRP is derived from your own blood and contains growth factors that stimulate healing and regeneration in the body. The body uses this natural substance to heal and regenerate itself. In the medical field, PRP has been successfully used for years to help heal wounds and regenerate tissues. In the field of aesthetic medicine, PRP is used to help regenerate healthy, beautiful skin, and more recently, as a breakthrough technology to restore the growth of healthy hair.

PRP stimulates hair follicle function, reversing the loss of hair and helping to strengthen and activate the hair follicles’ growth of thicker, healthier hair. When PRP is applied to the areas of the scalp to the balding areas where the hair follicles have weakened or stopped growing hair, it triggers the cells to function again and produce stronger hair strands.

It is, however, extremely important that you go to an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to receive your treatment, rather than shop around for the cheapest price.

Why leave your health and your face in the hands of amateurs? The old adage is still true: “You get what you pay for and, if it sounds too good to be true…it probably is.”

What Should I Expect During a PRP Hair Therapy Treatment?

PRP hair restoration begins with drawing a small amount of blood from your arm. This blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate out the PRP.

A mild anesthetic will be applied to your scalp to ensure you’re comfortable. Once this has taken effect, we will inject the PRP with a small needle into the target areas of your scalp.

The procedure will be complete in less than one hour. Expect some redness or swelling at the injection site, and you may experience mild soreness. This with fade within a couple of days.

Results After PRP Hair Restoration

As the hair follicle reactivate and grow stronger over about one month’s time, you will begin to see an improvement in the thickness and quality of your hair. To achieve ideal results, we recommend three sessions, each spaced one month apart. This allows the PRP to stimulate all of the hair follicles during their potential growth stage.

After three months, you should see a dramatic improvement in the overall thickness of the hair where PRP was applied.

To my patients,

It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to discontinue doing the surgical part of my practice as of the end of this February. Even though I will no longer be doing surgery, I will continue to provide botox, fillers and noninvasive treatments. Having experienced the many changes that life has brought over so many years of practicing medicine, it has become time for me to commit to other pursuits. I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to taking care of people in the area of aesthetic medicine. I have had the privilege of taking care of so many wonderful patients over the past 30 years. I have learned so much from all of you. Thank you for your trust and support.

Please reach out to book your nonsurgical appointments. Our contact information, and scheduling will be the same as it always has been. You can call us at 508-393-4544.
