Dermabrasion in Northborough

Dermabrasion helps to “refinish” the skin’s top layers through a method of controlled surgical skin removal. The treatments soften the sharp edges of surface irregularities, giving the skin a smoother appearance.

Dermabrasion is most often used to improve the look of facial skin left scarred by accidents or previous surgery, or to smooth out fine facial wrinkles. The vertical “smoker’s” lines around the mouth are a very common area to receive this treatment. It’s also sometimes used to remove the pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. Some types of acne scarring respond well to dermabrasion.

Dermabrasion can be used alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift, scar removal or revision, or chemical peel. Dermabrasion may be performed in our in-office surgical suite.

Dermabrasion is a far different procedure than microdermabrasion, which is a spa exfoliating treatment. Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that requires a significant recovery period but, once you have healed, it delivers a dramatically-improved skin texture.

Not everyone is a candidate for dermabrasion. If, after an injury, your skin tends to develop raised (keloid) scars or form pale or dark spots (hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation, respectively), dermabrasion is contraindicated. Persons with very thin skin or a history of certain viral diseases (such as oral herpes) are also dissuaded from the procedure.

After your procedure, you will essentially have brand-new skin! Protect it carefully and follow Dr. Poulos’ aftercare instructions closely.
