What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are a safe, non-surgical solution to facial aging around the eyes, nose, mouth and jawline. These temporary injectables consist of a gel-like substance, which contains ingredients that plump the skin. Each suspension is perfectly formulated with a specific texture and density to target specific areas. One of the biggest advantages of using injectable fillers is that it is a non-invasive approach. Usually, you can see immediate results, and there is no downtime.

What are the benefits of dermal fillers?

  • Safe, non-surgical and non-invasive
  • Plumps depleted facial contours
  • Replenishes lost facial volume
  • Smooths away wrinkles and fine lines
  • Helps hydrate the skin
  • Improves facial symmetry
  • Provides a more youthful, inviting appearance
  • Helps boost self-confidence

What are some different types of fillers and wrinkle reducing treatments?

Dr. Poulos uses Volbella, Restylane, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Restylane Refyne and Defyne, Radiesse, and Sculptra.

BOTOX and Dysport:

Safe botulinum-based injections, which weaken the contracting muscles under the skin to create a smooth, firm appearance.

Restylane family of products:

Made with hyaluronic acid, Restylane products are used to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and are FDA approved for use in lip enhancements.

Radiesse:

Made with Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA). Since Radiesse stimulates the production of collagen, it provides both immediate and long-term results.

Sculptra:

Made from poly-L-lactic acid, which does not provide immediate results. Instead, Sculptra stimulates collagen production and results appear gradually. After three-five treatments, results can last two years or more, with annual maintenance treatments possible.

Who is a good candidate for dermal fillers in Northborough?

Our Injectables in Northborough and Worcester are ideal for people on the go, who don’t have the time to take off for a long recovery. When possible, Dr. Poulos uses a cannula, a very thin tool that minimizes entry points and therefore facilitates less pain and bruising.

You should consider injectables if you are struggling with an aspect of your appearance, but you aren’t ready to undergo a surgical procedure. There a number of areas that injectable fillers can help treat, such as:

  • Lines around nose and mouth (also called marionette lines, smile lines, and parentheses)
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Thin or sunken lips
  • Hollow or weak cheekbones
  • Chin creases
  • Aging hands

Dermal Fillers FAQs

What areas can be treated with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are commonly used to enhance the lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline, as well as to diminish the appearance of nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and under-eye hollows.

Are dermal fillers safe?

When administered by a qualified healthcare professional, dermal fillers are generally safe. Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. Serious complications are rare but can occur.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The longevity of dermal fillers depends on the type of filler used, the area treated, and individual metabolic factors. Most fillers last between 6 to 18 months.

Do dermal filler injections hurt?

Dermal filler injections may cause some discomfort, but many fillers contain a local anesthetic to minimize pain. Additional numbing cream can also be applied beforehand to ease discomfort.

What is the recovery time after receiving dermal fillers?

Most people can resume normal activities immediately after receiving dermal filler injections. Some swelling and bruising may occur but typically subsides within a few days.

Can dermal fillers be removed?

Some types of dermal fillers, particularly those based on hyaluronic acid, can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if the results are unsatisfactory or if complications occur.

What should I expect during a dermal filler consultation?

During the consultation, your provider will assess your facial structure, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the best type and volume of filler to achieve desired results. They will also review potential risks and aftercare instructions.

How much do dermal filler treatments cost?

The cost of dermal filler treatments varies depending on the type of filler, the amount used, and the geographic location of the clinic. Generally, the cost can range from $600 to $2,000 per session.
