What you can expect during your Pico laser treatment

The Pico laser is exceptionally precise and works by sending short pulses of energy to the targeted areas. When the laser impacts the skin, it fragments the skin pigments in the problem areas, which are then naturally destroyed by the body. Despite the high concentration of the energy pulses, the Pico laser is gentle, and this treatment will not burn your skin. Most patients feel little to no discomfort throughout their session.

Depending on the issue you wish to address, the length of time your treatment takes and how it is used will differ. However, most sessions generally take anywhere from five minutes to half an hour.

Caring for your skin after your Pico laser treatment

Pico laser treatment does not require any downtime and essentially has almost no side effects. However, there are still some things you should do to take care of your skin now and long after, to ensure it looks its best:

  • Stay out of the sun for four to six weeks.
  • Keep your skin hydrated and clean and avoid using products that contain alpha hydroxy acid or retinol.
  • Do not scratch, pick at, or rub the treated areas. Doing so might result in skin infections, scarring, or other undesirable results.

FAQ About the Pico laser

How many treatments will I need?

Most will begin to see an improvement after two treatments, though others may require three or five for the best results. The number of sessions you need will depend on the issue you are dealing with.

Am I a good candidate for a Pico laser treatment?

This type of treatment is effective for a variety of skin types and can correct and address a range of issues, including unwanted tattoos. Consult with Dr. Poulos to assess if this is the right choice for you.

How does the treatment work?

The Pico laser can reach deep into the sub-layers of the skin and, when this triggers the body’s healing process, the old and damaged tissue is swept away and, in its place, new collagen is built, forming the building blocks of fresh, undamaged skin.

Are there any risks?

Every treatment has some risks associated with it. For the Pico laser treatment, the most notable risk is lightening of the skin in the treated areas. However, this tends to resolve on its own. Blisters are another potential risk and are more common in tattoo removal. When under the care of Dr. Poulos, your treatment will be performed with the most stringent health and safety protocols, and you can expect exceptional results.
