What is laser hair removal?

Our Worcester laser hair removal treatment (more precisely, laser hair reduction) is a finely-tuned sophisticated procedure done with the use of laser. This specific laser is designed to remove the growth center at the base of the hair follicle. The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.

Upon absorption, the laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle. The majority of the body is appropriate for the use of this laser. It is essentially a painless procedure, it can be performed in the office and does not require anesthesia.

The laser is FDA approved and in general is three laser treatments four weeks apart are required for long-lasting reduction of the hair in the region. What makes our laser hair removal treatment different from other medical spas is the expertise of the medical aesthetician providing the service. Each year, our aestheticians receive three full days of advanced laser training from the premiere aesthetic laser expert in the nation. Their review includes an overview of laser physics, Fitzpatrick skin typing, and tissue interaction.

As always, Dr. Poulos is on-site and available to assess any patient’s specific concerns or candidacy for treatment.

Who makes a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Because lasers target melanin pigment in the hair follicle, those patients with lighter skin and darker hair will see the best results with laser hair removal, although others can also benefit.

Laser hair removal is usually not effective for those with grey or white hair. You should avoid any tanning beds or sprays at least a week before your treatment.

What does recovery involve?

Recovery after our Northborough laser hair removal treatment is typically painless and without incident. You may encounter some redness and minor swelling akin to a sunburn, but these side effects will diminish within 24 hours.

Dr. Poulos will provide aftercare instructions for your skin, and will follow up to ensure you are happy with your results.

What Results Should I Expect?

During the following one or two weeks after your treatments are complete, the portion of the hair shaft beneath the skin is pushed out. During this time, you will notice these hairs shedding, leaving the remaining follicle inactive and empty.

Do not tweeze or wax the treated area during the time your skin is healing. You may have some tenderness or redness in the area, which will fade within about a day.

Everyone at Dr. Poulos office is highly professional and caring. I appreciate Dr. Poulos way of explaining a procedure in everyday terms making it easy to understand and to know what to expect. I started going to Dr. Poulos over a year ago and I have not had a bad experience.

To my patients,

It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to discontinue doing the surgical part of my practice as of the end of this February. Even though I will no longer be doing surgery, I will continue to provide botox, fillers and noninvasive treatments. Having experienced the many changes that life has brought over so many years of practicing medicine, it has become time for me to commit to other pursuits. I thoroughly enjoy and look forward to taking care of people in the area of aesthetic medicine. I have had the privilege of taking care of so many wonderful patients over the past 30 years. I have learned so much from all of you. Thank you for your trust and support.

Please reach out to book your nonsurgical appointments. Our contact information, and scheduling will be the same as it always has been. You can call us at 508-393-4544.

My best to all of you,

Dr Poulos
