What is laser hair removal?

Our Worcester laser hair removal treatment (more precisely, laser hair reduction) is a finely-tuned sophisticated procedure done with the use of laser. This specific laser is designed to remove the growth center at the base of the hair follicle. The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.

Upon absorption, the laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle. The majority of the body is appropriate for the use of this laser. It is essentially a painless procedure, it can be performed in the office and does not require anesthesia.

The laser is FDA approved and in general is three laser treatments four weeks apart are required for long-lasting reduction of the hair in the region. What makes our laser hair removal treatment different from other medical spas is the expertise of the medical aesthetician providing the service. Each year, our aestheticians receive three full days of advanced laser training from the premiere aesthetic laser expert in the nation. Their review includes an overview of laser physics, Fitzpatrick skin typing, and tissue interaction.

As always, Dr. Poulos is on-site and available to assess any patient’s specific concerns or candidacy for treatment.

Who makes a good candidate for laser hair removal?

Because lasers target melanin pigment in the hair follicle, those patients with lighter skin and darker hair will see the best results with laser hair removal, although others can also benefit.

Laser hair removal is usually not effective for those with grey or white hair. You should avoid any tanning beds or sprays at least a week before your treatment.
