3 Tips for Healthy Summer Skin

It is easy to get caught up in the active outdoor fun in the summer and completely forget to take care of your skin. How many times have you forgotten to put on sunscreen or moisturize after a day at the beach? It is important for us to not neglect our skin during these summer months, because while we may feel great and get a nice tan, our skin could be getting damaged.

Here are 3 tips on how you can maintain healthy skin this summer:

1. Always apply sunscreen: No matter how many or how few clouds are in the sky, you need to always be applying sunscreen when you go outdoors. The suns UV rays are mostly unaffected by the clouds in the sky so you are still getting hit with the same levels of solar radiation as you would if the sky was clear. Make sure to always choose sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher when you are shopping at the store.

2. Don’t use tanning beds: The suns UV rays are damaging, so why wouldn’t simulated UV light also be damaging? Tanning beds are very bad for your skin and overall health, many studies link skin cancer to frequent tanning bed use.

3. Catch some Z’s: Enjoy the nice summer weather! Go out and have fun and soak it up, but don’t run yourself ragged! Make sure you are getting a good amount of sleep every night. Lack of sleep can increase your stress levels which can in turn lower your production of collagen for your skin. A lower production of collagen can reduce your skins elasticity causing it to look dry and worn down.
