Female-Owned Plastic Surgery Practice Earns Gold Standard Safety Accreditation
Classique Medical Spa, owned by a female plastic surgeon, has earned the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) with no deficiencies after its first inspection. Quite a feat for the first time; the AAAASF accreditation is considered the gold standard of strict national safety requirements for office-based surgery centers.
Quality CareBy receiving AAAASF accreditation, Dr. Poulos’ patients can rest assured that they are receiving office-based surgery in a facility that has proper credentials and stringent requirements in place. For accreditation to be awarded, a surgeon’s office must:
- Have hospital privileges for performed procedures.
- Employ trained and certified surgical staff, RNs, licensed nurses, and medical assistants and scrub techs.
- Maintain a safe, organized and efficient surgical environment at all times.
In addition, all ambulatory surgery facilities must be held to hospital standards, track data, and be peer-reviewed on a regular basis.
The majority of ambulatory surgery facilities in the United States are not accredited. What does this mean for the patient undergoing surgery? It means that an unaccredited facility is operating without an inspection process or peer review.
Classique Medical Spa has joined the ranks of outpatient surgery settings that have recognized the need for accreditation. AAAASF accredited facilities must:
- Abide by appropriate local, state, and federal regulations.
- Follow federal laws and regulations including, but not limited to, OSHA standards, hazardous waste standards, and the Americans with Disabilities Act and HIPAA.
- Utilization of sterile techniques at all times.
By putting patient safety first, Classique Medical Spa has ensured they are keeping up with best practices surrounding the accreditation of office-based cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.
