Part II: Injectables – your next step

Once you’ve corrected any surface discolorations or texture concerns with your skincare routine, it’s time to correct any telltale fine lines or wrinkles. The most immediate way to correct forehead lines, crow’s feet, smile lines, or add youthful fullness to the cheek, is through injectables. Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin are used to treat forehead lines and crow’s feet. You’ll see your full results within 5 to 7 days. You can correct smile lines or marionette lines with a filler, such as Restylane, Radiesse, Perlane, Sculptra, or new Belotero. Sculptra is especially nice to add fullness to the cheek area, which hollows and can look ‘gaunt’ as we age.

Enhancing thinning lips – without looking ridiculous

Thinning lips are a tell-tale sign of aging. Unfortunately, lip enhancing injections have gotten a bad rap these last few years because of a few ‘over-enthusiastic’ celebrities with obviously overdone lips. Fortunately, precise and subtle lip enhancing injections can really turn back the clock! To me, the ideal lip is natural-looking, proportioned, and softly plump.   On the other hand, too much fullness is fake-looking and aging.  Because technique and product expertise are essential in achieving best results, lip enhancement is best left to experienced professionals. Like any injectable, it is an art form, where the injector must carefully consider the patient’s existing lip shape and desired outcome in order to select the most appropriate product and injecting technique.

So many of my lip enhancement patients are thrilled to be able to wear lipstick again! For too long, they’ve felt they had to hide their thin lips –and now they’re so excited to show them off!

Tune in next week for Part III: Lasers!
