The summer months are a great time to be active and outdoors, but that means your skin will be subjected to an increased amount of potentially damaging UV rays. This means you need to be extra cautious about protecting your skin to ensure that your skin remains healthy.

Of course, we all know that we should be using sunblock, but that isn’t enough if you want your skin to remain smooth and hydrated. Here are a few things you can do to ensure that your skin stays in tip top shape throughout the active outdoors summer months:

1. Exfoliate skin regularly for smoother skin: Exfoliating your skin regularly helps to remove the dead and dulling layers of skin. This helps to keep your pores open and improve your skins overall hydration from moisturizers. After exfoliating it is important to remember to hydrate your skin with a body cream—this seals in the moisture in your skin to keep it looking smooth and hydrated.

2. Drink a lot of water: The hotter it is and the more active outdoors you are, the more you are going to sweat. Sweating can lead to internal dehydration if you do not drink enough water! It is recommended that you drink eight 8oz cups of water. This is plain water, not sparkling or soda, just water. Not only does this keep you hydrated and help your skin to remain moist, it will also assist detoxing your body.

3. Don’t forget to reapply: Applying sunscreen once isn’t going to cut it if you plan on being outdoors for an extended period of time. You must remember to apply and reapply sunscreen often when you are outside, especially if you are at the beach or doing anything involving water, because the water will wash it off more quickly.
