What you need to know about Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing or laser peel is ideal for those who wish to see the last of damaged and untreatable

skin. It is a treatment that is used to smooth out irregular skin, reduce wrinkles on the case as well as acne scars and blemishes. Besides these it is also used to:

    • Reduce liver spots
    • Treat sun damaged skin
    • Treat skin that is non-responsive to facelifts
    • Improve the complexion especially those who have grayish or orange tinted skin
    • Remove warts
    • Treat away large glands on the nose.
    • Remove birthmarks

How it works

In this skin treatment a laser is used to focus concentrated beams of pulsating light onto irregular skin in a bid to remove it one layer at a time. Since the treatment uses a targeted approach, it results in little to no problems later. Hypopigmentation can happen which basically means your skin might get lighter in color especially if you undergo acne removal.

The laser beam works to remove the topmost and damaged skin layer which is called the epidermis while stimulating the skin underneath with heat. This encourages new collagen growth ensuring the new dermis is smooth and firm to the touch.

Are you a good candidate?

If your eyes, forehead and mouth have fine lines and wrinkles or your acne left scars before disappearing then you are a good candidate for this treatment. However, if you have very dark skin and have acne or have stretch marks, you might fare better with a different treatment. Make sure to discuss which one is right for you with your plastic surgeon before investing.

What is Erbium Laser Surfacing?

This type of laser peel or laser resurfacing can be used to remove deep lines from the neck, chest, face and hands. One of the best things about this treatment is that burning is minimal and it has very minor side effects. At most, you may experience some redness, swelling and bruising around the treated areas which should go away in about a week.

This is ideal for those who have a dark skin tone and it is available from Dr. Poulos’s skin and laser treatment spa.  She and her staff of trained personnel have years of experience in cosmetic and surgical skin treatments and can ensure a safe one for you. Call them today to book an appointment.
