What is a Facelift?

Due to the natural aging process, your body produces less collagen and elastin, two proteins essential to maintaining a youthful appearance. In response, the skin loses elasticity and sags while wrinkles and lines become more apparent. Aging also causes muscle tone and fat loss, creating a tired and aged appearance. A strategic facelift with Dr. Poulos in Framingham can address multiple signs of aging all at once for beautifully natural results.

Facelift Procedure

There are several variations of a facelift, and each technique varies according to the degree of correction necessary. Many facelift procedures incorporate a neck lift to address signs of aging on the neck. Dr. Poulos will examine your facial features and discuss your cosmetic concerns and goals to create a treatment plan that best achieves your desired outcome.

Our facelift in Framingham is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia so that you will not feel any pain during surgery. During a standard facelift, Dr. Poulos creates an incision in the hairline before lifting the facial skin to access and re-suspend the deep tissues to a higher and more youthful position. Displaced fat is relocated or resculpted to create a more natural-looking appearance, excess skin is trimmed, and the remaining skin will be redraped over the uplifted contours and closed with sutures.

Facelift Recovery

For your recovery, Dr. Poulos will give you detailed instructions and take an active role in your aftercare by routinely meeting with you to ensure you are healing optimally. The initial recovery period takes up to two weeks, during which you must refrain from everyday activities, including work and exercise. Bed rest is essential to allow your body to heal correctly. Swelling and bruising are expected during the initial recovery but should subside over time.
